From grassroots participation to performance pathways, the city supports para‑swimmers of all ages and abilities in welcoming, accessible environments.

Working in partnership with clubs, coaches, and communities, Manchester continues to champion inclusivity, challenge perceptions, and inspire confidence both in and out of the water. Our focus remains on removing barriers, widening access, and ensuring swimming is open to everyone.

Better UK deliver an assortment of disability swim lessons and sessions from 1:1 sessions for those who need extra help to group classes for more confident swimmers.

Bambers Inclusive Swimming

Bambers inclusive Swimming is Occupational Therapy Led swimming based in three locations; Piper Hill School in Wythenshawe, Gorton Education Village and Peak School, Chinley.

They also run a session for deaf children.

Level Water

Level Water provides part funded 1 to 1 swimming lessons to children aged 4-11 years of age with a physical disability, visual impairment or hearing impairment.
The aim of these lessons is to provide 1 to 1 support until a swimmer is able to join a group lesson/session of some sort to continue their development.

As part of the 2023 Para Swimming World Championship legacy in Manchester, Institute of Swimming are launching an inclusive swimming teacher recruitment academy with a specific focus on increasing the number of disabled people in teaching.

Matt Walker Academy

The Matt Walker Academy provides a place for swimmers with an intellectual or physical impairment who are looking to train in a club environment to improve their swimming.

This group will support swimmers who are eligible to progress through the classification process, providing the opportunity to compete at para swimming events at every level of the sport.

The Matt Walker academy sits within City of Manchester Swim Team.
