Leading the Future – Manchester Welcomes in the Next Generation of Sport Leaders
It was fantastic to be a part of the Manchester Sports Leaders Awards 2024 at Belle Vue Speedway on Thursday 21 November.
Families watched on as these inspirational young people accepted their much-deserved award and certificate for their brilliant work over the past 9 months.
Manchester Sports Leaders is a programme aimed at students currently in School Years 9-11 (13/14-16 years of age) who want to kick-start their Leadership journey. The programme entails Theory and Practical Elements, as well as a Volunteering and Small Event Delivery factor.
Upon completion of the programme, 25 inspirational young people have attained a Level 2 Qualification in Community Sports Leadership – certified by the Leadership Skills Foundation
These qualifications support both their future job prospects, providing a great addition to their CV, whilst also improving their skillset with a focus on confidence, team-working & leadership.
Cllr John Hacking, Executive Member for Skills, Employment and Leisure, spoke at the event and presented each Sport Leader with their certificate. Manchester Active CEO Eamonn O’Rourke and former Sport Leader and now GLL Duty Manager Catriona Doyle also delivered inspirational speeches to the families in attendance.
We’d like to thank our delivery partners GLL and TDS Studio for their committed support throughout the programme, and to our speakers on the night for providing their guidance and advice for the future.
The next stage of their journey will continue to be fully supported. Work is already underway for the second year of the programme, whether that be through volunteering, such as at Major Events hosted in the city, paid opportunities, support to attain their DBS & Safeguarding Certificates and potential opportunities to work for any of the delivery partners involved.
Thanks to these young leaders, Manchester’s future is #AliveWithSport
